FOOTHILL MAIDU RANGED ON THE WESTERN SLOPE OF THE SIERRAS FROM BUTTE CO. (OROVILLE, CA) IN THE NORTH TO EL DORADO CO. (PLACERVILLE CA) IN THE SOUTH. WILLOW, MAPLE AND REDBUD WERE THEIR PRIMARY WEAVING MATERIALS.

An exceptionally well woven Klamath quilled basket. Fine, even, controlled stitch makes this a very smooth sided basket. Made of Tule, mud dyed tule and porcupine quills.

7 CPI, 20 SPI FOUR PAIR OF STACKED POLYCHROME BUTTERFLYS DECORATE THIS COLORFUL BASKET. THE LEMON YELLOW JUNCUS LOOKS GREAT AGAINST THE VARING COLORS OF BROWN BULRUSH. CIRCA 1930 EXCELLENT CONDITION.

The Sierra Miwok people inhabited the Mokelumne & the Calavaras River drainages in the north to the Merced and Chowchilla River drainages in the south. This basket is decorated with bold redbud designs and a fancy criss-cross redbud rim finish. $900.00

A very pretty polychrome Yokuts basket. Two bands of rattlesnake design woven with redbud and dyed braken fern on a sedge root background with a alternating color rim stitching. Very brillian colors. Circa 1910

Hupa Hat

A 20th century hat most likely made by Amy Smoker. Amy's red alder dye has a very distinct color and anyone who has seen much of her weaving will recognize it. Heavily decorated.  

Pima Minature Tray

This is a super fine featherlite pictorial tray displaying an Eagle and stars.  They were not woven much finer than this one!!
